Biking trough three mountains

The route we have selected goes through three of the most beautiful Bulgarian mountains - Stara Planina, Sredna Gora and the Rhodopes.

The tour starts on 17 May

(Suitable period: April - September)

Itinerary


Day 1

Arrival at the Sofia Airport where you meet our guide. Transfer to the town of Teteven (about two hours), which is situated on the northern slopes of the Stara Planina mountain. Accommodation and presentation of our program.

Day 2

Walk around the town. Start of our tour beginning with our MTB for village of Ribaritza along the river of Vit. Picnic on the way. Ascending by asphalt road the Bogoya ridge and descending down through the Troyanski Balkan mountain to the village of Beli Osam. Taking a rest in a mineral water pool. Accommodation in a hotel. MTB distance: 45 km. Time required: 4 hours.

Day 3

Descending by MTB down to the town of Troyan. Visit to a small factory for traditional clay pottery. A dirt road (10km) brings us to the Troyanski monastery, the second largest in the country. Seeing the monastery and having a lunch. Continuing further to the town of Apriltzi. Accommodation and staying overnight. Distance 55 km. Time required: 5 hours.

Day 4

Ascending upwards on MTB by asphalt and dirt roads to the Roussalyiski ridge (1510 m). Time required: 3 hours. In the afternoon: descending 27 km by dirt road to the village of Tazha (Southern Bulgaria) and another 15 km to the town of Kalofer, in the famous Valley of Roses. Hotel accommodation.

Day 5

Heading off by asphalt towards Koprivshtitza. Passing through the towns of Karlovo and Sopot (80 km). Arrival in Koprivshtitza around midday. Walk inside and seeing the houses and museums of the most original old Bulgarian town.

Day 6

Leaving Koprivshtitza by asphalt leading to the central ridge of Sredna Gora mountain. 30 km ascending on asphalt plus another 8 km of dirt road down the tourist complex Buntovna. Afterwards, 15 km down by dirt road to the village of Krastevich. Bus transfer to Plovdiv, the second largest city of Bulgaria.

Day 7

Seeing the Old Town of Plovdiv, the Ethnographic Museum and the Ancient Amphitheater. Afternoon transfer to the Bachkovski monastery (29 km). Seeing the monastery and 25 km of transfer to the village of Laki along the picturesque valley of the Jugovska river. From Laki we ascend by MTB through asphalt road to the village of Manastir (1600 m) - the Balkan Peninsula's highest altitude settlement. Another 7 km by dirt road take us to the beautiful lake on the Hajdushki Polyani natural site.

Day 8

Descending by both dirt and asphalt roads to the village of Momchilovtzi. Seeing the local Museum of History and continuing to the town of Smolyan. Hotel accommodation.

Day 9

Leaving Smolyan and ascending by asphalt road along the Cherna Reka river direction of the village of Mugla. The road is almost parallel to the state border with Greece. Descending down to Mugla by asphalt and continuing further to the Trigradsko Zhdrelo gorge - one of the most fascinating natural phenomena of Bulgaria. Hotel accommodation in Trigrad.

Day 10

Leaving Trigrad southwards and moving by dirt roads in direction of the state border with Greece. An 8 km of ascending road takes us to the neighbouring gorge - the Buinovsko Zhdrelo near to the village of Buinovo. Returning back to the Yagodinska Peshtera cave. After seeing this marvellous cave inside, we continue by asphalt road to the Orfei (Orpheus) hut, where we stay overnight.

Day 11

Heading off for Sofia. The program in Sofia will depend on the time we have before your flight. Departure.

Deposit: 100 EUR

Price includes: All ground transportation (a comfortable bus), all meals - full board (with packed lunches when necessary), accommodation in hotels, guide, entrance fees for all nature reserves.


The price does not include: airfares, travel insurance, hard drinks and all items for personal use.
